D2D Wrap Around Care

D2D is our wrap around care service for Reception to Year 6 children from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. We are open Monday to Friday term time only. We offer a breakfast session from 7.30am and a choice of after school session from 3-6pm or 4-6pm.

At D2D we use the Playwork Principles to influence the care we provide.   Children will be in a fun, safe, caring environment where they have the opportunity to make new friends, gain new skills, take some risks and be challenged, laugh and on occasion get some bumped knees – all key parts of growing up, developing resilience and gaining independence. All our team are first aid qualified so you can rest assured that your children are in good hands.

We follow a free choice philosophy and provide a fun, happy and safe place for children to freely play with their friends, take part in activities, arts and crafts, sports or just chill out and enjoy the variety of toys and games available. No two days at D2D are the same!

Breakfast

D2D breakfast

We open at 7.30 and children can arrive any time during the session.

Independence and choice are encouraged and so most children pour their own cereal and milk and spread their choice of toppings on their toast. They also pour their own drinks from jugs of apple juice, orange juice, milk or water.

When they have finished eating or if they have already eaten their breakfast at home they are free to choose what they would like to play or do until it is time for school.

At 8.40am the children line up as Infants and Juniors and are accompanied to the school gate where they join their friends and make their way to their classrooms.

School bags

After school

Children are collected in the playground and walked back to the D2D hut where they hang up their coats and bags.

We offer a healthy snack with choice of drinks and water is available throughout the session. The menu is available in our newsletter and changes weekly with allergies and dietary needs catered for.

The session finishes at 6pm and children can be collected any time during the session so the amount of time they get to play depends on when they are collected.

During both sessions children can choose whether to play inside or outside and there are a wide range of resources to support their play.

D2D mud pans

Outside they can choose from balls, hoops, crates, skipping ropes, the sandpit or the mud kitchen – all of which are popular with children of all ages.   There is a multi-weather surface which can be a football pitch, an obstacle course or the high seas – the only limit is their imagination.

Indoors, there are always plenty of pens, paper, scissors and glue for arts and crafts or junk modelling. There is also a range of board games, books and toys to support imaginative and constructive play such as dolls houses, action figures, animals and Lego.  Often one of the staff will organise a craft activity for children who wish to join in, usually inspired by the season or a request from a child. All children are encouraged to engage in creative and imaginative play with their peers.
